Wolverine Academy settles into its new home

Bayfield High School’s Wolverine Academy has long existed to provide students with an alternative setting and approach to secondary education, but the opportunity for teens to embrace a non-traditional learning environment and make it their own was enhanced further when the school district chose to move the academy into the building that formerly hosted Pueblo Community College’s Bayfield operation.

Welcome to Bayfield High School

Dear Students & Families of BHS,

The 2023-2024 school year is quickly approaching and our teams have been working hard to get things ready to go for our students. We will be continuing to work collaboratively to offer a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn and grow.

We are gearing up for a very successful school year.  Here are a few things I wanted to make sure you were aware of as you prepare for the start of the school year.
Freshmen Preview Day: Monday August 14th, 7:45 -12:00. Bus transportation, school breakfast and lunch will be provided.
First day of school: Tuesday August 15th, 7:45 - 3:50
School Picture Day: Wednesday August 17th - starting at 8:00
BHS Bell Schedule
BSD Official Calendar: Please note there are two weeks in the school year that we shift to a Monday off to observe federal holidays.
BHS Student & Parent Handbook
Student Chromebook Policy
Transportation: Please contact our District Transportation Services to inquire about the bus routes and pick up/drop off times.
School lunches: Bayfield School District will be participating in the “Healthy Meals For All” Program starting July 1, 2023. Breakfast/Lunch are “free” to all students. Although nutrition services will be free for students, we as a district will need to apply our costs to a variety of funding sources in order to get them covered. These funding sources are also tied to other benefits for students like early interventions in reading, athletic fee waivers and college application fee waivers. We ask that every family complete the “Free and Reduced Lunch Application”. Federal and state contributions to our funding are dependent upon these applications, regardless of if you qualify or not.  Please see our District Nutrition Services office’s website for more information.
Immunization: please see our District Health Services website for the most up to date information.
Student Parking: Any student wishing to park in the BHS student parking lot during the school day MUST have a BHS parking permit. In order to obtain a permit you must fill out the attached form 23/24 BHS Student Parking Permit Form and then bring $5 to the office during regular school hours.  Use this same link for Seniors to upload their artwork for approval to paint their own parking space. Parking spaces are first come first serve basis and artwork approval is required before painting - students will receive an email from Mr. Forsthoff when they have been approved.
Students who participate in Sports and Activities at Bayfield High School must register online. The registration process includes completing Bayfield High School’s Activities Agreement forms and submitting a current CHSAA physical (required for sports only). All student-athletes must have all Activities Agreement forms completed and a current CHSAA physical examination prior to participation.  Please plan to complete registration over the summer to ensure that your student is cleared to participate when official practices begin. For fall sports, Tryout and First Day of Practice: August 7, 2023.  Register online HERE.
Juniors and Seniors are allowed to leave campus at lunch with parent permission only.  Hard copies of the permission form are available in the front office and we must receive a hard copy with parent signature before we can issue an off campus pass.
We are very excited to partner with you and have a few things scheduled that will give us an opportunity to meet each other and for you to become more familiar with programs at BHS. Please consider participating in the following activities:
BHS Open House: Come meet our team and hear from us about our vision for BHS, learn more about our curriculum and program opportunities for students. Thursday August 10th, 4:30 - 6:00 pm
Wolverine Academy Open House: Come see and learn about our Alternative High School program. Thursday August 10th from 4:00 - 5:30 pm at 658 S. East Street in Bayfield. Newly housed in the modular classrooms.
We will continue to communicate throughout the year using our BHS website (be sure to check the activities calendar), Facebook page BHS Wolverines, Swift alerts and the weekly newsletter - The Wolverine Press. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. I look forward to a wonderful year ~ Go Wolverines!
