Welcome to World History and Geography!

Welcome everyone! I’m excited to have you join us for a year of exploring the people, places, ideas, and events that have shaped our world.

This course is built around immersion and critical thinking. Rather than simply memorizing dates and facts, students will step into the past, examine different perspectives, ask meaningful questions, and make connections between the world of yesterday and the world we live in today.

Throughout the year, we will explore world history from the early civilizations through the present, examining how politics, innovations, economics, culture, environment, and society interact to shape human populations, resources, conflict, cooperation, and our increasingly interconnected world.

Most importantly, students will develop an understanding of their unique place in time and within the larger human story. My goal is for students to leave this course not only with a stronger understanding of the world, but also with the curiosity, perspective, and critical-thinking skills needed to thoughtfully engage with the world around them.

About Ms.Britton!

Hi everyone! My name is Brooklyn Britton.

I graduated in 2020 with my undergraduate degree in History and English Literature, and immediately jumped into the world of teaching. To start my career I taught 10th grade social studies for three years. Within this time I taught World History, AP World History, Psychology, and Sociology.

After the birth of my first son in 2023, I took a break from teaching and went on to serve in various roles in several different museum institutions. Some of the roles I served in were curator, exhibit designer, museum coordinator, and educational coordinator.

My family and I (husband Reid, three year old Finn, and 7-month old Lochlan) may be some of the newer Coloradans you'll meet, having only moved here from central Texas in April 2025!

With our move I felt the call to come back to teaching and fell in love with the Bayfield school district. Having been treated like family from my very first interview I knew this was the place I wanted to be.

I cannot wait to work with our newest high schoolers and walk with them as they begin their high school journey!
