Welcome to the BHS English Language Arts Department!

Please reach out to any of us with any questions, concerns, or celebrations. Communication is our business, and we promise to reply to you within 48 hours.

We are four language, literature, and learning enthusiasts whose classroom communities are effervescent with creative inspiration, grounded in academic precision, and strengthened through collaborative inquiry. As proud communication teachers, we place community at the center of our work with students and families.

We offer two Advanced Placement courses and five concurrent enrollment courses right here at BHS!

Here are the February 2025 highlights and updates from our classes:

Currently we are celebrating English I students, who have begun reading Romeo and Juliet and are memorizing Shakespearean Sonnets of their choosing before presenting to their peers.

We are proud of English II students, who are reading Julius Caesar and memorizing Mark Antony's funeral speech before presenting to peers.

AP Language and Composition students are designing innovative rhetorical term lessons for their peers and digging deeply into academic research.

Our Creative Writing students are acting as on-the-ground journalists as they explore cultures, communities, and phenomena of which they are unfamiliar in order to compose exciting creative nonfiction projects.

English III students are soaring as they analyze The Great Gatsby, consider the novel's rich symbolism and themes, and contemplate the complexities of the "American Dream."

Students in Honors English III are immersed in the literature, painting, sculpture, music, art, heartbreak, and rebirth of the Harlem Renaissance.

Our outstanding seniors are reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in English IV and making fun connections to absurdism with clips from Monty Python and the Holy Grail
