Town Proclaims Every Friday as “Bayfield Wolverine Day”

City and school officials gather for a photo with the proclamation. At Tuesday night’s Bayfield School Board meeting, Mayor Tom Au and Town Manager John Waters led a contingent of town leaders who presented a framed proclamation officially designating every Friday throughout the school year as “Bayfield Wolverine Day.”

The proclamation, signed by Mayor Au, celebrates the strong connection between the Town of Bayfield and Bayfield High School, encouraging residents to show their Wolverine pride each week by wearing purple and gold. The city was also represented at the meeting by Brenna Morlan, Laura McLaurin and Alexis Hartz.

The proclamation highlights Bayfield High School’s long-standing role in the community, noting that the school “has educated our community's young adults for over 102 years” and offers “a variety of competitive athletic and extracurricular programs to enrich its students' academic experience.”

It also recognizes the Wolverines’ many state championships over the past quarter-century in sports such as football, basketball, track and field, cross country, and cheerleading, and acknowledges the town’s collective support for its students and educators.

By officially proclaiming each Friday from September 5, 2025, through May 22, 2026, as “Bayfield Wolverine Day,” Mayor Au invited local residents, businesses, and employees to join in the celebration by wearing purple and gold as a show of support for Bayfield’s students.

“Go Wolverines,” the proclamation concludes, underscoring the spirit of unity behind the initiative.

Following the presentation, Bayfield School Board President Rebecca Parnell thanked Mayor Au, Town Manager Waters, and the Town Board for what she called “a truly special recognition.” She said the town’s gesture is more than a fun tradition—it’s a visible reminder of the community’s belief in its schools and students.

“Seeing businesses, town employees, and neighbors wearing our colors each week sends a clear message to our kids that they matter,” Parnell said.

She added that the board is grateful for the town’s leadership in helping to build pride in the schools and unity throughout Bayfield, noting that the district is proud to be part of a community that “believes in what we’re doing.”

With the new proclamation in place, Bayfield Fridays will now serve as a weekly celebration of school spirit, community pride, and support for students throughout the year.
