Dear Bayfield Families,
Please know I am reaching out with some general information about our services and our district. Thank you for the many emails and Facebook posts supporting the Bayfield School District. By working together – We got this -- Wolverines!
First COVID-19 Case in La Plata County Announced Today
Today, San Juan Basin Public Health announced the first positive case of COVID-19 in La Plata County. Local public health officials continue to issue strong guidance for social distancing and staying home, as they operate under the assumption COVID-19 will continue to spread in our community as so few tests have been conducted in La Plata County.
-- Practice social distancing: Maintain at least six feet distance between yourself and others.
-- Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water. In the absence of soap and water, use hand-sanitizer.
-- In general, remain home unless you are seeking medical care or making essential trips for basic necessities.
-- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
-- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or bent elbow.
-- Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces.
On our first day of lunch service, we served 62 meals, thanks to our hard-working nutrition staff. “Grab and Go” lunches are available from 11-Noon, each weekday at Bayfield Intermediate School. Please limit foot traffic into the building and send only the least number of students, or just one young person, into to pick up the lunches for the family, when possible.
Our outstanding partner from Pine River Shares (PRS) is happy to support Bayfield students and their families during this challenging time. Families picking up to-go meals at Bayfield Intermediate School on Thursday can also grab a pre-packaged family food bag from PRS containing non-perishable proteins, fruits, carbohydrates, and vegetables. Pre-packaged bags of dog and cat food, donated by Valley Feed and Ranch Supply at Gem Village, will also be available.
Look for the Pine River Shares table on Thursday, March 26, also from 11-Noon, at BIS. For more information call Pine River Shares, 970-884-6040.

Reading and Resources (Thanks BMS teacher, Molly Morningstar)
Our partners at the Pine River Library wants to remind students that they can access digital content and e-books for free at https://prlibrary.org/digital-media/. They can go to the catalog on the right-hand side, and type in what book they want to see if it is available in e-book format. If students do not have a card, call or message the library to get an ecard, which is required to check out digital content.
Another good resource is https://www.gutenberg.org/. There are thousands of free e-books and learning resources available through this site.
Additionally, we found this article with 45 links for accessing books, magazines, poems, and plays: https://nothingintherulebook.com/2017/01/10/55-places-you-can-download-tens-of-thousands-books-plays-and-other-literary-texts-completely-legally-for-free/
Life-Long Learning (Just Not How We Thought)
We are learning new ways to learn, teach, and interact. We are proud that by Wednesday in the Bayfield School District, almost every student and/or family should have been reached by a teacher.
Thank You Bayfield Community
Thank you for your support of Bayfield School District as we are truly demonstrating: Each Student, Each Day, Wolverine Way.
