American Sign Language (Period 2)

Course Description

 

This class serves as an introductory course to American Sign Language.  American Sign Language is a visual-gestural language used by the Deaf community in North America.  Throughout this course, students will learn fingerspelling, basic sign language vocabulary and history of deaf culture.  Emphasis is placed on real-life applications and the development of receptive and expressive signing skills.

Class Objectives: 

1.  Students will learn basic ASL vocabulary and terms.

2.  Students will learn the history of Deaf culture.

3.  Students will develop basic skills in expressive sign language.

4.  Students will develop interaction and presentation skills in ASL.
